Choose the Behavior and Check the Resistance

Choose something you genuinely want to do for your health, healing, work, or well-being but keep resisting. Picture yourself doing it and notice the resistance in your body. If a 0-to-10 number comes easily, record it. If not, simply notice the felt quality.

This practice is for the part that pulls back from what you think you should do. It does not require shaming or overpowering that part.

Tapping 1: The Part That Resists Taking Care of Me

Side of the Hand: Even though I don’t do what I know I should do, I deeply
and profoundly accept myself anyhow.

Even though there’s this big part of me that doesn’t seem to want to improve,
I deeply and completely accept who I am and how I feel.

Even though I don’t do what I know I should do for my health and well-being, I
deeply and profoundly love and accept myself anyway.

Top of the Head: I seem to be resisting taking care of myself.
Eyebrow: Why do I keep sabotaging?
Side of the Eye: I know what’s good for me.
Under the Eye: I know what I’m supposed to be doing.
Under the Nose: There’s this large part of me that doesn’t seem to want to
improve.
Chin: It seems to take way too much effort.
Collarbone: I’m not even very good about doing my tapping every day.
Under the Arm: I wish I could feel calm and peaceful, and I wish I could
follow through on what is good for me.

Take a slow breath.

Picture the behavior again and notice what has changed.

Tapping 2: I Do Not Like the Pressure

Side of the Hand: Even though I tend to sabotage myself, I deeply and
completely accept who I am and how I feel.

Even though I have a huge part of me that seems to resist taking care of
myself, I accept who I am and how I feel.

Even though I don’t do what I know I should do for my health and my mental
health, I deeply and profoundly love and accept myself anyway.

Top of the Head: I don’t seem to do what I know I should do.
Eyebrow: I don’t like the pressure.
Side of the Eye: I’m not that bad.
Under the Eye: There’s a part of me that doesn’t seem to want to improve.
Under the Nose: I do want to improve.
Chin: It’s too much work.
Collarbone: I don’t understand this part of me that doesn’t want to get
better.
Under the Arm: I choose to accept myself even though it seems like I don’t
want to get better.

Take a slow breath.

Check the behavior and the resistance once more.

Tapping 3: Accepting the Resistant Part and Inviting Inspiration

Side of the Hand: Even though there is this part of me that doesn’t want to
improve, I deeply and profoundly love and accept who I am no matter what.

Even though this enormous part of me doesn’t want to improve, and I don’t
understand it, I accept who I am and how I feel.

Even though I never do what I know I should do for my health and my well-being,
I deeply and profoundly accept all of me, even the part that’s resisting and
sabotaging.

Top of the Head: Wouldn’t it be nice if I could feel inspired?
Eyebrow: That would be so exciting if I was inspired.
Side of the Eye: I remember feeling inspired a long time ago.
Under the Eye: There is that part of me that doesn’t seem to want to
succeed.
Under the Nose: I don’t understand that part of me.
Chin: And that’s okay.
Collarbone: I accept all parts of me right now.
Under the Arm: I choose to accept every part of me no matter what.

Top of the Head: Even when I resist what’s good for me.
Eyebrow: I appreciate how I think.
Side of the Eye: Even when I sabotage my success.
Under the Eye: I appreciate every single part of me.
Under the Nose: Even though the sabotage resistance part is pretty strong.
Chin: I choose to accept all of me.
Collarbone: I choose to accept all of me no matter what.

Top of the Head: I’ve just made a decision.
Eyebrow: I am where I am and I appreciate how I feel.
Side of the Eye: I appreciate every single part of me.
Under the Eye: My resolution is to accept myself more and more.
Under the Nose: I love feeling inspired to do what’s right and good for me.
Chin: I love knowing when it’s a YES for me.
Collarbone: I choose to feel inspired, and free, and excited about my life.

Take a slow breath.

The recovered practice contains seven phrases in each of the final two passes. They are retained without inventing an eighth phrase.
