Acceptance Is a Place to Begin

I am where I am is not a demand to like pain, give up, or stay where you are. It is a way to stop requiring this moment to be different before you can offer yourself care.

The pressure of I must not be here creates an inner tug-of-war. Some energy goes into wanting change while another part fights the reality of what is happening now. Making even a little peace with where you are can gather those resources and make new choices easier to see.

Acceptance Can Include Protest

If I am where I am feels soothing, use it. If it feels false or infuriating, include that truth:

  • I am where I am, and I don’t want to be here.
  • Part of me is okay, and part of me is not okay.
  • I can recognize where I am without deciding to remain here.

The aim is not forced happiness. It is less struggle with yourself and a more resourceful starting place.

Tapping: I Am Where I Am

Top of the Head: I am where I am.
Eyebrow: I am where I am.
Side of the Eye: I am where I am.
Under the Eye: I am where I am.
Under the Nose: I am where I am.
Chin: I am where I am, where I am.
Collarbone: I am where I am.
Under the Arm: And I’m not staying here, I’m getting better. I am where I
am, and that’s okay.

Take a slow breath.

Notice whether the statement carries a little more peace. Even a small shift is meaningful. From there you can ask: How can I make the best of where I am now?
