Guided Practice: Connecting to a Loving Presence

The quiet of the night can feel empty, or it can become a space to sense connection. Let this practice use the language that fits you. Source might mean the Divine, love, nature, imagination, ancestors, a beloved being, or the deep care available within you. Nothing has to appear.

Close your eyes if that feels comfortable and ask: Who or what would be comforting to me now?

Perhaps a dear friend comes to mind. Perhaps a beloved animal, living or remembered. You may imagine an angel, spirit buddy, healer, cuddler, ancestor, wise figure, or a whole circle of supportive beings. You may sense only warmth, gravity, breath, or the bed.

Notice what you most want to receive in the night. Would you curl into a lap? Would someone hold your heart gently, rub your feet, dust off the day, or simply stay without asking anything of you?

Let the body make one request. Bring attention to the feet, belly, heart, shoulders, face, or another place. Ask, What kind of energy or care would feel good here? Imagine the chosen presence responding in a way that respects your body and boundaries.

Now imagine a companion who noticed every sincere effort you made today: each moment of courage, authenticity, love, compassion, restraint, or returning. Let that companion see the challenges too, without grading you. Receive the possibility that your imperfect reaching still matters.

Something playful from nature may appear—a tree, moon, bird, groundhog, wave, or breeze—offering a wordless sense that you belong in the world. Let it be playful if playfulness comes.

If a question is still circling, bring it to a wise and accepting presence: What would you have me know right now? Wait without forcing an answer. A feeling, image, sentence, practical step, or silence may come. Silence can also be company.

If connection remains distant, return to grounding: feel the bed, quiet the hamsters, breathe, and soothe the body. Reaching does not obligate the system to feel something on command.

Let whatever connection is available nourish you in the quiet hours. Rest in the companionship of a being, memory, energy, earth, or your own caring presence. Allow the practice to fade as you move toward sleep.
