Let the Capable Adult Be Present Too
A younger part may approach bed feeling alone or vulnerable. That is not all of you. There is also an adult body, adult experience, and a person who has made it through everything between then and now.
Let your posture express as much present-day capability as feels natural. Feel the support beneath you. Rub your hands together, then look at them. Notice their size, strength, age, and ability to offer comfort.
Tapping: Sleeping with Adult Resources
Side of the Hand: Even though part of my energy may still hold frozen
experiences, and there may be too many to count, I recognize that I am not as
vulnerable now as I was then.
Even though sleep was not always good for me growing up, those experiences were
early conditioning. I invite my body and mind to explore sleep tonight with the
resources of the adult I am now.
Top of the Head: Sleep did not always feel good back then.
Eyebrow: I may have slept like a frightened baby.
Side of the Eye: Frozen, vigilant, or waiting.
Under the Eye: I wanted warmth and cuddling.
Under the Nose: I wanted connection.
Chin: I wanted safety.
Collarbone: I notice the safety and choice that are genuinely available
right now.
Under the Arm: My younger self is welcome to cuddle with me.
Top of the Head: I invite more of my adult confidence into sleep.
Eyebrow: Easy and peaceful, as much as feels believable.
Side of the Eye: I can be strong and tender at the same time.
Take a breath. Place a hand on the heart or another supportive place. Feel the
adult body, the life experience, and the capacity to offer kindness to a part
that still becomes small at bedtime.
This is less a declaration of self-love than a living relationship. If a part of you arrives tired, pouty, disappointed, or afraid, the adult does not have to banish it. You can say, I know. Not everything happened the way you wanted. Let us connect before we sleep.
