Come Back Before Choosing

Waking from a dream can leave you confused about where you are and what to do. The mind may still be partly inside imagery, emotion, or energetic experience. That disorientation does not automatically mean something is wrong, and it does not require an immediate explanation.

Feel one present detail: blanket against the legs, pillow against the face, water near the bed, a familiar object, or the sound of the room. If you are not safe or the confusion is medically concerning, seek appropriate help. Otherwise, give orientation time to return.

Tapping 1: Returning to Now

Side of the Hand: Hey, sweetheart. It is okay. You may have been dreaming
deeply. You do not have to remember it. I am here with you now.

Even though this feels disorienting, I can take one gentle breath and come back
a little at a time.

Top of the Head: I do not have to know what to do this minute.
Eyebrow: I can take a gentle breath.
Side of the Eye: And return toward now.
Under the Eye: I let a familiar sound reach me.
Under the Nose: I am offering myself company.
Chin: I feel the blanket against my body.
Collarbone: And the pillow or support beneath me.
Under the Arm: I check what is true in this room.

Top of the Head: It is okay that I woke disoriented.

Take a breath and look around gently.

Choose from Outside the Confusion

Once a little orientation returns, ask what you would do for a confused child. Possibilities include a sip of water, light, a bathroom visit, touching a familiar texture, naming the room and date, quiet movement, tapping, or getting up briefly.

Tapping 2: I Have Options

Eyebrow: I feel frustrated and confused.
Side of the Eye: I do not know what to do.
Under the Eye: And I do not want the old exhausting pattern.
Under the Nose: I know how to run until I collapse.
Chin: What if I soothe myself now?
Collarbone: Part of me wants to fight or flee this wakefulness.
Under the Arm: I can ground even while the energy feels intense.

Top of the Head: I can choose the next gentle option, not the perfect one.

Take a breath. Your unique recipe may include staying in bed, getting up,
movement, quiet entertainment, company, or further care. Choice is part of the
soothing.
