Meet the Part That Expects Failure
Beginning can activate an old chorus: Nothing ever works. This will not work. Why bother? There is no need to argue that part into optimism. Tapping can meet its frustration while recognizing that showing up is already something different.
Feel your feet or whatever supports your body. Wiggle your toes. Take a slow, comfortable breath. If spiritual language is supportive, you might imagine being held by life, the earth, or the Universe. Use only the words that feel believable enough to engage with.
Tapping: I Am Beginning Differently
Side of the Hand: Even though I have struggled with sleep for a long time,
and part of me may have given up, it is okay. I am doing something different
right now.
Even though starting from the ground up sounds strange, I am here. I am curious
about changing how my mind and body approach sleep.
Even though part of me thinks this would take magic, I invite a little wonder
and possibility back into my life as I bring more care and energy to myself.
Top of the Head: I have had trouble sleeping before.
Eyebrow: I was trying to sleep with so many old messages.
Side of the Eye: It is hard to sleep with all these squeaking hamsters.
Under the Eye: I am listening to those hamsters now.
Under the Nose: There, there, hamsters.
Chin: Thank you for trying to warn me.
Collarbone: Some of those dangers may belong to another time.
Under the Arm: I am open to learning what supports sound sleep now.
Top of the Head: I am beginning, and I appreciate myself for that.
Take a slow breath. Notice which phrase felt comforting, unbelievable, funny,
irritating, or unexpectedly true. That response is useful information for the
next round.
Change does not require pretending that change is guaranteed. Being here, tapping, and listening to your response is enough for this beginning.
