Watch, Then Practice

Tap with the Fear That Fits

This practice uses strong language about abandonment, isolation, and terror. Use it only when those words fit your present experience. You can soften them, pause, keep your eyes open, orient to the room, or choose a different practice. The aim is not to create a memory or convince yourself that something happened. It is to offer present companionship to fear that is already here.

Feel the support beneath you. Notice the air temperature and wiggle your toes. Take a comfortable breath.

Tapping: I Am Here with the Younger Fear

Side of the Hand: Even though I felt abandoned, isolated, and afraid, I did
survive. I can begin holding those feelings differently now.

Even though part of me may still freeze in terror, that younger protective
response was doing the best it could. I am here with it now.

Even though I never want to feel that helpless again, perhaps bedtime can
become a different experience, one believable moment at a time.

Top of the Head: I felt so alone.
Eyebrow: It seemed that nobody came.
Side of the Eye: I called for help.
Under the Eye: And I did not feel met.
Under the Nose: Part of me believed the world was broken.
Chin: Part of me felt it might not survive.
Collarbone: I send soothing care toward that younger self.
Under the Arm: There, there, sweetheart.

Top of the Head: You did a good job surviving.
Eyebrow: The whole world is not that moment.
Side of the Eye: Some things were painful and imperfect.
Under the Eye: And I am with you now.
Under the Nose: Perhaps a little relaxation is possible.
Chin: You are welcome to rest against my caring presence.
Collarbone: You can listen to my heartbeat or feel my hand.
Under the Arm: With each breath, I am practicing staying with you.

Top of the Head: You are worthy of deep, steady love.

Take a slow breath. Look around and notice the present room again. If the round
increased activation beyond what feels workable, stop and seek the kind of
support that helps you remain connected to the present.
