When Rest Feels Like a Reward You Have Not Earned
Guilt, disappointment, or fear of having “too much good” can make sleep feel undeserved. The mind may use wakefulness to punish, correct, or pull life back toward a familiar level. Notice the specific charge: What do I believe I must pay for by staying awake?
Tapping: Testing the Possibility of Deserving
Side of the Hand: Part of me does not think I deserve to sleep. Maybe I did
something I regret, or maybe the day went so well that goodness feels unsafe.
Keeping myself down does not feel useful.
These hamsters think something bad could happen if I receive too much rest,
love, or abundance. I appreciate their intention and allow myself to consider
forgiveness.
Top of the Head: It is okay to notice this.
Eyebrow: Many people struggle with deserving.
Side of the Eye: Having this belief does not make me bad.
Under the Eye: I can open to deserving more.
Under the Nose: This is a belief, not a final verdict.
Chin: Beliefs can change through experience.
Collarbone: Perhaps I deserve more than I imagined.
Under the Arm: I can test that gently with rest tonight.
Top of the Head: Maybe I deserve sleep.
Take a breath. If a specific regret appears, name the repair it needs. Repair
and rest can both be responsible choices; self-punishment is not the same as
making something right.
