Guided Practice: Quiet the Noise
Lie down or settle somewhere supportive. You do not have to make yourself sleep. For now, let the eyes and body rest.
Imagine that the busy hamsters in your mind have small beds of their own. Thank them for everything they tried to track, solve, and protect today. Tuck them in with whatever would comfort them. They are not being fired; they are being given a night shift that includes rest.
Bring attention to the toes. Wiggle them, then feel the blanket, socks, sheets, or air around them. Let the feet and ankles receive the bed. They do not have to carry you now.
Allow the calves, knees, thighs, hips, and pelvis to become heavier if they want. Appreciate everything they helped you do. Nestle into the support beneath you.
Take a slow breath. As you exhale, imagine releasing a little of today’s worry. It might float outward, move down through the bed and earth, or simply become less tightly held. Let the image fit your own sense of energy and support.
Feel the low, middle, and upper back. Let the back know that it can stop holding everything upright for this moment. Bring the same permission to the belly and chest.
Now notice the fingertips. Imagine warmth or relaxation traveling through the palms, wrists, forearms, elbows, and upper arms. Let it reach the shoulders and the back of the neck. The shoulders have carried enough for today.
Bring gentle attention to the throat. Appreciate everything it helped you express and everything it protected. Let the jaw move a little, then invite it to release what it does not need to hold overnight.
Imagine a kind hand at the back of the head, around the ears, and over the scalp. Let it smooth the forehead and the small muscles around the eyes and cheeks. If touch is welcome, use your own hand.
Rest attention near the heart. Feel a beat, warmth, movement, or simply the place where the heart is. It continues caring for the body without requiring you to manage every beat. Imagine its steadiness spreading as warmth through the chest, belly, arms, legs, face, and every place willing to receive it.
You might repeat:
I did what I could today.*
I can rest without finishing everything.
*In this moment, I am receiving support.
If spiritual imagery feels nourishing, let the warmth extend into a larger field of love, earth, or Universe. If not, let the bed and breath be enough.
There is nothing more to accomplish in this practice. Let the voice and images fade. Sleep if sleep comes. If it does not, remain supported and allow rest to count.
