Find the Threat Beneath Perfection

Complete the sentence: I need to be perfect, or else…

The answer may be rejection, abandonment, anger, humiliation, loss of love, or even a body-level sense of death. Perfectionism can be a survival system, not merely a preference for high standards.

Because different people define perfect differently, the task is impossible. It also makes someone vulnerable to manipulation: a hint of disappointment can trigger frantic compliance.

Tapping: Human and Still Acceptable

Side of the Hand: Even though part of me is certain I have to be perfect or
I will lose love and belonging, I honor how completely this pattern tried to
protect me.

Top of the Head: I am pretty sure I have to be perfect.
Eyebrow: They reward perfect.
Side of the Eye: Everyone looks happy when I perform it.
Under the Eye: The tension wraps around my whole core.
Under the Nose: I have been a perfectionist for a long time.
Chin: What if I can bring out my best without terror?
Collarbone: I am human, not universally perfect.
Under the Arm: I can be imperfect and still care, belong, and choose.

Separate Generosity From Obligation

A request may be something you gladly want to do. Check whether the yes comes from generosity or from fear of no longer appearing perfect. The same outward action has a different energetic cost when it is covered by obligation.

Practice saying, That is true; I am not perfect, and it is okay. Let the Primitive Brain discover that imperfection can be acknowledged without the predicted catastrophe.
