Listen, Then Practice
Consider That There May Be No Bad Parts
After years of inner struggle, both the pushing part and the protective part may carry blame. One believes the Primitive Brain ruined opportunities. The other may feel attacked, ignored, and forced to protect even harder.
What if there are no bad parts here—only parts with incomplete information, different jobs, and a history of misunderstanding one another?
This does not erase consequences or require instant affection. It creates room to lay aside blame long enough to see what each part has been trying to do.
Offer Repair Without Forcing Forgiveness
You might imagine the Primitive Brain as a person, animal, ogre, bodyguard, or another form that arrives naturally. Notice its condition after the tug-of-war. Notice your own hands, arms, and body, too.
If it feels true, offer an apology for the ways you have attacked, shamed, or ignored this part. Invite it to show you what it has experienced. Forgiveness can be offered as a possibility, not required as proof of progress.
A hand, a hug, or closeness may feel right in the imagination. Distance may be more respectful. Let the relationship choose a believable form of contact.
Tapping: Make Room for Mutual Understanding
Side of the Hand: Even though we have blamed and fought each other, I am
open to the possibility that neither part is bad.
Side of the Hand: Even though forgiveness may not be ready, I can begin
with honesty, appreciation, and a willingness to understand.
Top of the Head: We have both been hurt in this struggle.
Eyebrow: We have both tried to protect something important.
Side of the Eye: I am sorry for the ways I attacked myself.
Under the Eye: I am listening for what this protector needs me to know.
Under the Nose: I do not have to force forgiveness.
Chin: I can invite a little repair.
Collarbone: Perhaps blame can soften as understanding grows.
Under the Arm: We can begin again with a smaller step.
Top of the Head: My Primitive Brain conserves energy for reasons.
Eyebrow: It is also connected to pleasure and aliveness.
Side of the Eye: We might use that power together.
Under the Eye: Presence can be the first baby step.
Under the Nose: Acknowledgment can be movement.
Chin: Cooperation does not have to happen all at once.
Collarbone: We can practice one trustworthy action.
Under the Arm: I am open to co-creating from here.
Take a breath. Notice whether any image, sensation, or response changes between
you and the Primitive Brain.
Let the First Baby Step Be Relationship
A baby step does not have to be external productivity. It may be noticing the brake without yelling, acknowledging fear, listening for a body response, or asking what would feel safer.
Once there is enough connection, choose a small action you can take together. Keep it modest enough to generate evidence of cooperation. The Primitive Brain learns from embodied experience: We listened. We adjusted. We moved. We stayed connected.
Over time, that evidence can replace the old assumption that change requires force.
