Let the Primitive Brain Register What Is Here

The Primitive Brain may scan continually for what could go wrong while barely registering what is working. Deliberately noticing current support does not deny uncertainty. It corrects an incomplete picture.

Ask a small, immediate question: Is it safe to take this breath right now? If the honest answer is yes, let the breath happen while tapping gently on the collarbone or resting a hand where it feels welcome.

Tapping: Right Now

Side of the Hand: Even though some part of me stays prepared for danger, I
am willing to notice what is safe enough in this moment.

Top of the Head: Right now I can look around.
Eyebrow: Right now it is okay to sit here.
Side of the Eye: Right now the floor is supporting me.
Under the Eye: Right now I can take this breath.
Under the Nose: Right now I can hear what is actually around me.
Chin: Right now I can notice one thing that is working.
Collarbone: I am letting my Primitive Brain receive this information.
Under the Arm: I can be present with what I am doing now.

Give Ordinary Support Time to Land

When you drink, feel one sip. When you eat, taste one bite. When you sit, let the body receive the chair. When someone trustworthy is near, notice one quality of that connection.

Multitasking can deliver calories or complete tasks while depriving the system of the felt experience of nourishment. A few seconds of attention helps the Primitive Brain register sustenance, contact, and completion.

Several times a day, ask: What is it safe for me to do right now? The answer might be breathe, soften, focus, eat, move, ask for help, enjoy, or attend more carefully. Let the actual moment answer.
