Watch, Then Practice

Zero Is Not the Only Evidence of Success

It is easy to assume that correct tapping should make an intensity fall to zero immediately and stay there forever. Sometimes a feeling does clear that way. Often it does not—especially with grief, long-held trauma, physical tension, or a major life transition.

Moving from nine to seven can be profound. At nine, it may be hard to think about anything else. At seven, the body notices movement and the mind may recover choices. Do not discard a useful process because it did not produce a perfect result.

Think Exercise, Not Magic Bullet

Tapping is an emotional technology, much like massage, a warm shower, a nap, movement, or talking with a trusted friend. It helps you engage with and unwind suffering rather than merely avoiding the feeling.

Tune into a place of tension and tap gently:

Pay attention. I send you love and acceptance. Thank you, body, for all you
have been doing for me. I am inviting this place to relax and unwind just the
right amount for now.

Notice changes in warmth, texture, softness, breath, or relationship to the sensation—not only whether it disappeared.

Tap with Perfectionism

Side of the Hand: Even though it is not all gone, and I worked hard at
this, I thought that if I did it perfectly it would disappear. Maybe my body
does not work that way. Maybe it is pretty amazing how far I did come.

Top of the Head: I tend to discredit myself.
Eyebrow: It is not all gone.
Side of the Eye: It was not enough.
Under the Eye: It is never enough.
Under the Nose: And I did do something.
Chin: I took action and improved my life a little.
Collarbone: Maybe it is pretty amazing how far I did come.
Under the Arm: If I keep doing little things like this, imagine next year.

Take a breath.

Celebrate Forward Motion

Self-acceptance includes receiving the nourishment of progress. When you move something, let yourself register it before pointing to everything that remains unfinished.

Ask: What changed? What can I appreciate? What does my body need next? A trend toward relief, greater awareness, kinder self-talk, or renewed capacity is real practice. “Doing it right” means staying curious and responsive—not forcing every human feeling to zero.
