EFT Tapping Tip: I Can’t Say “I Love and Accept Myself”!

A lot of EFT Tapping scripts use the phrase, “Even though ____, I love and accept myself anyway.”

Stop! What if you just can’t say that?? What if you don’t love and accept yourself?

Will Tapping still work for you?

First, know that a lot of people have that problem in the beginning. It gets easier as you tap away the reasons you feel unacceptable and unlovable.

That doesn’t help if the words literally won’t come out of your mouth now. Or if they feel bad or wrong to say.

There are several options. Give them a try and see which ones work for you.

1) You don’t have to believe the phrase to say it. Even if it feels 100% untrue, some part of you hopes it might be true someday and will hear it.

2) You can soften it. “I deeply and completely accept myself” is not the only statement that will work. It’s just one a lot of people use. You could try:

…I would like to deeply and completely love and accept myself.

…It would be nice if I could deeply and completely love and accept myself.

…I’m in the process of deeply and completely loving and accepting myself.

…I’m learning to deeply and completely love and accept myself.

3) You can change the phrase entirely. See if one of these fits better (or make up one of your own):

…I’m starting to accept myself a little.

…It would be nice if I could love myself at least a teeny bit.

…I wonder what it would be like if this were different.

…I’m open to seeing this differently.

4) You can tap on it.

Karate Chop: Even though I can’t say I deeply and completely love and accept myself, because that would be a Big Lie, I am open to finding a way to care about myself.

Even though I will never be able to say I deeply and completely love and accept myself, I am open to liking myself a little.

Even though I don’t know how I can love and accept myself, I appreciate that I’m doing my best to heal.

Top of the Head: I don’t really like myself.
Eyebrow: It would be nice to change that.
Side of the Eye: I can’t imagine loving myself…
Under the Eye: I am open to feeling better.
Under the Nose: I can’t accept myself…
Chin: At least not yet.
Collarbone: I am doing my best to heal.
Under the Arm: That is something I can appreciate.
Top of the Head: I like that I might someday accept myself a wee bit more!

I'm OkayIf the reasons why you believe you can never accept yourself start coming up, write them down so you can tap on them! Those are wonderful tapping subjects. Changing these beliefs will help you feel more deserving of abundance. If you follow the Law of Attraction, you know that releasing limiting beliefs can help you find new possibilities for love, finances, and vitality.

Once you get comfortable with Tapping, you can try a version of it called Inner Tapping… where you imagine tapping on your younger selves to clear old hurts quickly. You can learn more about this approach here:

I  and myself – schizophrenic? Subject and object. Isn’t there only subject? I prefer to say “I love and accept what I am” Wholeness.

    • Glad you’ve found a way to feel whole. For people who have been through trauma, the brain freezes a representation of ourselves. We’ve found over and over and over again that addressing that frozen part “as if” she were a separate Younger You (or inner child) allows us to feel more empowered to integrate… to experience wholeness.

I really appreciate all you do. Can y’all please record audio’s of these scripts that y’all send out? Thanks :o)

    • Thanks for asking, Ami… While we may do a few here and there, there are over 800 scripts on Thriving Now. At this time we have no plans for doing audios for all of them.

There are some available if you search for audio in the search box at the time.

      I hope that helps!

I would like to share with you my feelings about this statement, because they are very different from what you might expect.

I DO completely love and accept myself, and feel that saying it is totally unnecessary—and it feels STUPID to me to have to say what is already true!

I want a different phrase than that one!

    Do you have any suggestions?

    • I do!

You can tap, “and I choose ____” and tap for what you are choosing right now.

If you want to share what you are tapping on, I can offer some other options, too. Tapping is very flexible. Some people come to this work having a really, REALLY hard time accepting themselves. Perhaps they blame themselves, or feel ashamed, or life feels really heavy. For them the “accepting” part is really tough.

For others they are accepting, and want some ENERGY in order to take inspired action. Or find peace and clarity. Or…
