This teleconference was recorded on Sunday, September 25, 2005 at 10:30am. If you would like to participate in EFT and Emotional Freedom Coaching teleconferences yourself, consider becoming a Thriving Now Team Member.

Borrowing Benefits (Start 05:20) I offer a brief description of how we will use Borrowing Benefits on the teleconference. Borrowing Benefits is how Gary Craig describes tapping along with other people’s sessions while receiving benefit for yourself. I borrow benefits all the time when working with clients, too. As you listen to this or any other teleconference recording, I encourage you to set your intention to benefit yourself for a specific memory that you still find troublesome.

Pretty Earrings, Pretty Woman, and Itchy, Heavy Ears (Start 09:39) Deb has M.S. and has developed a sensitivity in her ears when she tries to wear earrings. She went through a heavy metal detox protocol some time ago, but now her earrings start to make her ears itch and feel like they are carrying a 10 lb weight. In this session we explored a number of emotional connections to the physical sensations, particularly around the “burden of beauty” and the kind of attention a women receives when she looks and FEELS pretty… even in a wheelchair. The ears respond. Certainly with a condition like multiple sclerosis, there are daily physical and emotional challenges. What is wonderful about EFT when used in this context is that it can lighten the heavy burden on the body even in just a 25 minute period of tapping together. Sure, there is more work to be done on the energetics around inner and outer beauty and feeling calm and confident no matter what. But we all have more to do there, don’t we? (smile)

Non-smoker Except With Other Friends Who Smoke (Start 34:20) Jane is a non-smoker… most of the time. However, when with certain smokers she still smokes. In this session we use one particular person she sees every day, Nancy, who smokes heavily and is confined to her home. We start with the physical sensation Jane feels when she considers NOT smoking at Nancy’s house. As those are relieved, we go deeper into the sensations and smells. We discover that she feels less distress from the smell of smoking when she is smoking herself. So we decided to do an experiment where we relate the fact that while she doesn’t enjoy the smell of cooking meat (since Jane is a vegetarian), she still cooks meat without feeling that she needs to eat it herself along with Nancy. By tapping on this approach, especially before going to Nancy’s as well as during her visit if she feels strain, or after the visit if she smokes, I’m confident Jane can find ease in staying a non-smoker even when with Nancy and others who smoke. There may be other aspects; the good news is that they will show up if they are present, and with EFT they can be neutralized simply, right in the moment.

Cause unknown.
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS aka Lou Gehrig’s Disease). Cause unknown.

These are just a few of the mystery diseases and syndromes for which traditional medicine cannot tell us what causes the condition or how it can be healed. Someday, their focus on the anatomy, biochemistry and neurology of the physical body may provide enough clues that causes can be identified and treatments arranged. Today, as individuals who have these conditions will tell you, there is a great deal of frustration and traveling from doctor to doctor to doctor to see if anyone has an effective treatment.

Last night at the local fibromyalgia and arthritis support group, I was giving an introduction to EFT and energy therapy. Several of the attendees spoke of the way their doctors had not believed them or had “stolen their hope.” I encouraged them to use EFT on those feelings. And, I also encouraged them to see that there were other options, other doorways into the body’s incredible healing mechanisms that they have not explored yet. If you suffer from one of these conditions, I encourage you to do the same.

You see, there are different ways of looking at the body. Our medical system tends to look at the body as a system of tissues, organs, and biochemicals within a sack of skin and bones. Medicine does a wonderful job when there is a clear cause and effect, such as breaking a bone in an accident or removing an inflamed appendix. Where medicine is weaker, to the point of deep frustration for those with the conditions, is for chronic diseases and syndromes for which there is no clearly defined cause and effect… the mystery diseases.

Yet, some practitioners who specialize in these conditions often notice aspects that their patients have in common. Many have been under chronic, unrelenting stress for a long period of time. Many have physical, emotional, or sexual traumas in their past that still evoke intense feelings when they remember them, even decades later. Are you saying it is all in my HEAD??? No. The pain is real; it is present and palpable within the body/mind. And, there also seems to be a tie-in with emotions and stress.

We do have challenges, though. The emotional and energetic aspects of these conditions are not well understood, and the language of energy therapy is new to almost everyone. Furthermore, traditional medical approaches and therapy do not usually address physioemotional pain effectively, so there is not an established referral network and there is certainly no insurance coverage. With the overall ignorance of energy methods comes understandable skepticism (and even scorn from some). That is changing, slowly, as evidence mounts. In the meantime, it will be up to you to listen to your intuition and decide how best to proceed for your own health and well-being.

So let me ask you a few questions. Try them on, and see how they feel to you.

1) Do you feel that stressful emotions significantly increase your pain and discomfort?

2) Have you experienced trauma, abuse, accidents, or other significantly painful life events that you feel intensely in your body when you remember them vividly?

3) Do you feel constant fear or anxiety in your body—a continual triggering of the fight, flight, or freeze reflex?

4) Is your inner talk mostly worried, fearful, negative, and without hope?

If your answer to one or more of these is YES, then here is what I would propose as a 30-day program to help you get on the road to optimal health.

Learn EFT!
Use EFT diligently on every negative body sensation, emotional pain, and discomfort you experience for a period of 30 days. Notice how you feel. Use EFT for a few minutes no less than 3-5 times a day.

Neutralize the Physioemotional Pain of The Top 5 Things I Wish Never Happened to Me using EFT
Make a list of everything you wish never happened to you… at any point in your life. It might be a very long list. That’s okay. Then, relax, take a few deep breaths, and ask your intuition: “Which of these events would be the most useful for me to address, that would help improve my energy and the quality of my life?” Circle five of them. Work with a skilled EFT coach (or use EFT on yourself while you talk to your mental health professional) to walk through those five events to harmonize the feelings in body, mind, and spirit. Using the EFT movie technique, this should take 2-5 sessions. (Our Thriving Now Team Membership can help make this affordable). Then just notice how you feel.

Get a Massage a Week
For 30 days, get one massage a week. Ask around for the most vibrantly healthy, happy, safe, gentle, present, capable massage therapist in your region. Drive an hour if you need to! If you like your first session, schedule three more, with the last one being a full hour and a half. There is nothing more helpful for overall well-being than safe, nurturing, therapeutic touch. It can help balance your energy and raise your Good Vibrations to a place where your natural healing powers are re-energized. (I am a professional massage therapist, and I cannot imagine not receiving a massage a week for myself. It is my first scheduling priority as I plan my time. Do get a massage a week for a month, and see what a difference it makes.)

Keep an Appreciation Journal
Appreciation is another powerful way to internally shift our vibration from dis-ease to health. Each morning and every evening, write no less than one thing you appreciate about your body or your life. It must feel true to you! Here are some thoughts:

I appreciate how good my body feels underneath the warm shower.
I appreciate how delicious that apple tasted on my tongue and in my mouth.
I loved that uplifted feeling I felt in my body when I walked out into the sunshine. Thank you body!
I appreciate my eyes for seeing that yellow flower.
I appreciate my ears for hearing that song I love.
I appreciate my hands for feeling the warmth of my friend’s touch.
I appreciate my heart for beating over 86,000 times in the past 24 hours. Thank you heart!

If you have been suffering for a long time… if there are serious imbalances within your body and emotions… the most important steps you take will be those that connect you with better feelings. What we need to do is shift the balance away from suffering and distress towards peace and hopefulness. I know you want to be fully healthy immediately. These steps I propose are designed to help you feel good… for moments in time. And if you can find peace for even a few seconds, and then for a few more seconds, and then for a few more… and you get GOOD at creating those moments of peace… eventually, those moments will become a much greater part of your life experience. You will have long stretches, even hours and days, where you will be thriving.

Sophia Cayer shares a multiple sclerosis case study working with “Harry,” who has had more than a few health challenges:

At the age of 10, he fell 25’ down a hay shoot onto a concrete pad, landing on his tail bone. Multiple accidents over the years added to the challenges and pain. He has been through 16 major operations, for his back, neck, and even cancer. He has so much metal in his body that he sets off radar detectors. In addition to suffering multiple major emotional traumas, several years ago he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.

As the result of all this, over the years, Harry says he has taken just about every prescription drug on the market for pain, (including morphine) and even became addicted to some. The addictions were severe enough that he was forced to enter treatment centers. On occasion he could walk from his home to the mailbox and back without crutches. He couldn’t ride in a vehicle for more than 10 miles without excruciating pain and discomfort.

Harry had reached rock bottom; he was ready to die if a path back to health did not appear soon. He and his wife prayed for an answer, and EFT and Sophia re-appeared in their lives. (I encourage everyone to honor and trust such “coincidences.”)

This article points out that Harry’s condition did not change overnight. He tapped regularly and persistently. He had professional support. His professional support followed up with him, to help him reconnect to the success he had with EFT when he stopped communicating and started considering suicide once again. They covered NUMEROUS aspects of his chronic pain, both physical and emotional. And Harry showed a lot of courage and willingness:

“There were days and times when the emotional intensity seemed almost too much for Harry, but we worked through it, with his insistence that he was ready to off load anything keeping him from healing.”

Harry found a way using EFT to not only face his pain, he found a way to release his pain. Clearly, support of a professional was invaluable to Harry; healing from chronic disease without a circle of support (beyond a spouse) is extremely challenging. I know.

Harry’s results are more than just encouraging. They are inspiring!

After being on disability for twenty-four years, (yes, I said and meant 24 years) he is working a full time job. Not a desk job, but one that requires physical effort most of the day. He continues to tap on a daily basis, no less than 3 or 4 times a day, and we still work together a couple of hours a week. His wife is still whining that she can’t keep up with him. When they get home at night she is ready to rest and relax while he is still full of energy! Yes, we are working on getting her into persistent tapping as well!

The causes of multiple sclerosis remains a mystery. Our western medical research is exploring genetic tendencies, exposure to toxins and pathogens, and other pathways. Like chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, and other mystery diseases, the traditional western approach has left us baffled and frustrated. But…

WHAT IF one of the central contributors to these conditions is an imbalance in the energy system?

WHAT IF medication is not the way to reach and address these energetic disruptions?

WHAT APPROACHES CHANGE when we look at the body as a quantum field of energy and information (that can and does become disrupted), rather than just looking at it as a sack of bones, tissues, and organs floating in a biochemical soup within a sack of skin that needs to be fixed by some outside agent or procedure?

WHAT IF our body’s natural healing processes can be unblocked by addressing all the emotional and physical aspects with something as simple as EFT affirmations and tapping?
