Bruce Lipton makes the point that there are two states where humans operate. In protection mode, which is where we are stressed, feeling unsafe, and the primitive brain is active, our whole biochemistry is geared towards survival. Parts of our body, particularly the viscera, are deprived of energy and nourishment in order to maximize short term survival chances. In growth mode, we are a completely different animal altogether! We are stable, connected, and guided towards our higher purposes.
To live a thriving life, I believe self-awareness is a key: are we in protection or growth, in fight/flight/freeze/stress or relaxed/calm/confident? We can develop the skill of self-awareness, and also develop specific habits like meditation and tapping (EFT) to help us shift from protection to growth consciously… especially when protection really is NOT what is the most resourceful state for us in that moment.
