How We Think and Talk About Debt

Our language to ourselves and others reflects our energetic relationship with a subject. We cannot use an expression like “enormous debt” and not feel strained. In this dialogue with Abraham-Hicks, the questioner is walked through a process of choosing language that feels better (and that provides relief) around her “truth” that she has enormous debt.

Q: I’m looking at an enormous of debt that I have…

Abraham: Now, think about what you’re doing—

Q: I know …  (laughter)

A: You not only called it debt you, called it E-n-o-o-o-r-mous debt –

Q: and that’s, that’s the truth.

A: Oh, it IS the truth, we understand that.

You hear us playing with you.

There are a lot of things that are true.

There are people who are thriving, that’s true. There are people who are not thriving. That’s true. There are people who are experiencing radiant health, that’s true. There are people who are experiencing sickness, that’s true.

So, so what? There are things that I have experienced before, that’s true. There are things that I didn’t like that I experienced, that’s true. There are things that I experienced that were wonderful, that’s true. There are things in my life that are terrible, that’s true. There are things in my life that are wonderful, that’s true.

So what?

There are things I like to eat, there are things I don’t like to eat, there are colors I like, there are colors I don’t like… In other words, let’s not debate whether it is or whether it isn’t because anything that anybody has ever thought is somewhere in someone’s experience.

Instead let’s talk about what you want to activate in your experience. Just because something is true doesn’t mean you want to activate it in your experience. And just because you have lived it doesn’t mean you want to activate it again. And just because you are living it, doesn’t mean you want to keep living it.

Q:  Right.

A: So why would I keep beating the drum of this thing I do not want?

It’s like saying “Universe I don’t want it, give me some more. I haven’t yelled ‘uncle’  yet. Keep giving it to me, keep giving it to me. No, I haven’t reached my threshold of not being able to bear it yet. I can endure more. I can endure more. I can endure more.”

And fortunately, some of you come to breaking points where you say, “No more!” and you sort of give up… and in that moment, things start getting better for you. But you could start doing it right now by saying, “No point in talking about and activating the vibration of ‘not enough.’ Why not look at the aspects where there is enough and let that be the dominant vibration that I’m offering?”

Which of these sentences feels like the path of least resistance to you… which sentence feels the best to you?

I’m experiencing enormous debt from which I see no easy way out.
[or] I have enormous debt, but I’ll find a way out of it.

Q:  Number 2.

A: Not a great deal of difference but it was slightly softer. Try this:

I know the potential for more income is there for me, I just haven’t been able to figure out how to get it flowing.
[or] I’m looking forward to more income flowing into my experience.

Q: Yes, that second.

A: Now this:

No matter how hard I try I keep ending up in the same place.
[or] No effort is ever wasted because I’m gaining clarity along the way.

Even though I think I’m getting further ahead by the decisions I’m making when I analyze it, I really haven’t made any strides forward, in fact I’m in bigger debt than ever before.
[or]  I probably shouldn’t make this debt issue the basis of my feeling of success.

All companies who thrive are debt free …[audience laughter] Lotta thriving goin’ on with a lot of debt.

It’s wrong for me to have debt.
[or] Debt itself is not inappropriate.

The world looks at me and feels scorn for the debt that I have…

Q: You’ve been reading my mail (laughter)…

A: [or] The world understands debt.

Those who I owe are giving me a very hard time about the debt.
[or] Those who I owe will be pleased as they receive payment.

I should turn this all around right now, I shouldn’t've let it get this far.
[or] I’ll turn it around bit by bit and the journey will be great fun.

Now, the thing we are wanting to point out to you here is that nothing changed with your debt, and we know that if someone swooped in and gave you a million dollars or whatever, that for a day or two you’d feel great. We know when you hit yourself over the head with a hammer there is always relief when you stop.
(audience laughter) And we understand that if the debt would just evaporate that you think that you would feel some relief.

Find a way to make these things that you’ve been defining as a struggle… not a struggle.

Find a way to say, “This is just something I’m doing. This is my campaign for becoming debt free.” And no one’s ever enjoyed a campaign of becoming debt free who wasn’t really under enormous debt. In other words, make a game of it, make fun of it. See it as a process. We promise you, you never get it done.

And don’t let someone else’s opinion of where you stand taint your opinion of where you stand. Continue to remind yourself that you are a very good person. And that you always do what you say you are going to do. And that you mean well and that you always choose what is most appropriate from your perspective. And that you mean to do the best for everyone and that you don’t want to leave anyone holding the bag.

Keep reminding yourself that you’re a stable, solid person and as you keep activating that within you. You will find yourself having fun in the process of diminishing this debt.

You may be thinking… “Have FUN???” Yes, have fun. What I find with my coaching clients is that when they shift to a state of playfulness, they move out of the stress and strain of survival and into a place where options open up. We are vibrational beings, and the first step on the emotional journey is to decide that we are going to look at and experience an aspect of life differently. To do that, our inner language must change. This dialogue shows how to “fork”—how to choose between two thoughts one that feels even a little bit better. It is a wonderful technique for moving up the vibrational scale.

Even when we reach a level of comfortable abundance, there is always more. I love being generous, so the more abundance that flows IN, the more that can flow OUT. My own personal coach for attracting abundance is EFT master Carol Look. You will want to consider her e-book on Attracting Abundance with EFT if you want to take your own financial situation to the next level in the coming year.
