Cheap Nutrition at the Airport

81 cents?! I couldn’t believe it! I had just spent nearly three dollars for a large bottle of water. Now, the same vendor wanted a mere 81 cents for a beautiful Sunkist orange. The tiny bag of chocolate chip cookies next to the orange was over three times as expensive.

When contrasted with the high cost of airport food, the apples, bananas, and oranges found at certain vendors can be an outstanding value… and good for you, too. The same goes for minimarts as well. I picked up a delicious banana the other day for only 59 cents from the local gas and go.

Of course, food and bottled water can be a lot cheaper when you pack it in advance. I pick up fresh roasted almonds and raisins from the local farmers market and cases of bottled water at the discount store (24 for less than $7). We keep a case of water in the car when we travel, and the nuts and raisins are an excellent mix of carbs and protein when blood sugars start to fall.
